The Theater District is a 17-blockarea in the heart of downtown Houston that is home to world-class performing arts organizations: Alley Theatre; Houston Ballet; Houston Grand Opera; Houston Symphony; Da Camera; Pace Theatrical; Society for the Performing Arts; Theatre Under The Stars; and Aerial Theater at Bayou Place.

Houston is one of the few metropolises in the nation to maintain permanent companies in all four major performing arts disciplines: opera, ballet, symphony and theater. The Theater District has 13,401 seats, which ranks second only behind New York City for the most theater seats in a concentrated downtown area.

THE ALLEY THEATRE 
The Ally Theatre received the 1996 Special Tony Award for its continuous level of artistic achievement and its contribution to the growth of theatre nationally. This Theatre celebrated its 50th Anniversary Season in 1996-97.

AERIAL THEATER AT BAYOU PLACE
Aerial Theater at Bayou Place, a uniquely designed theater capable of accommodating a variety of presentations, opened in November 1997 in the heart of Houston's Downtown Theater District.

DA CAMERA

ENSEMBLE THEATRE

HOUSTON BALLET
The Houston Ballet is the fifth largest company in America. Houston Ballets offers the 47 dancers in its company a 44 week annual contract, the longest contract of any American dance company.

THE HOUSTON SYMPHONY
The Houston Symphony, one of America's oldest performing arts organizations, was founded in 1913. It is widely acclaimed as one of the top orchestras in the United States, with an active recording and international touring schedule as well as performing more than 200 concerts each year at Jones Hall and other venues, which draw more than 300,000 people. 713-227-ARTS

PACE
The Houston Broadway Series brings the best of Broadway touring productions to Houston, with stars such as Jerry Lewis in Damn Yankees, new productions like Jekyll and Hyde, and long-running Broadway blockbusters like Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon and Sunset Boulevard.

Society for the Performing Arts is the largest nonprofit performing arts presenter in the Southwest, and has sponsored more than 600 performances of the world's finest music, dance and theater events since it was founded in 1966. 713-227-2787

THE GRAND 1894 OPERA HOUSE, GALVESTON
Declared the Official Opera House of the State of Texas, The Grand 1894 Opera House serves as a showcase for live entertainment.

THEATRE UNDER THE STARS
Theatre Under The Stars is the largest nonprofit producer of musical theatre in America Performing an average of 200 shows annually, TUTS has a reputation for premiering new musicals and organizing national and international tours.

MAIN STREET THEATER

One of Houston's oldest and most respected theatrical companies, Mainstage Productions puts on nearly 20 shows every season. The theater also boasts Houston's largest and most active Young Peoples Theater program.
